I’m behind in my blog posts. This one was supposed to be for Friday… oh well. I’ve started seeds! I’m not very sure what I’m doing or how well it’s going to work, but I’m excited about it. I have a 72 cell seed starting tray that my Grandad gave me. He and my uncle used to own a feed and seed store (sure wish they still did!) and this was one of the things he’s kept since they closed it down. It’s pretty trick! It’s designed to hold water in the bottom of it and it has a wicking cloth that pulls the water up to the seed plugs. Sounds confusing, but it’s not. Maybe I should have gotten a picture of that.
Anyway, it has 12 columns of 6 cells so I decided to plant 6 each of the tomatoes and peppers and watermelon that I got from Seed Savers Exchange. I’m keeping it outside so I won’t have to harden off the seedlings (and because we don’t have any room in our house). I’ll keep you updated on how it grows….errr, goes!
Also, btw, it’s been sunny and in the 80s for several days and is supposed to be for the rest of the week. Everything is growing full-tilt. We have little broccoli heads! The radishes will come out this week. I’m starting to harvest some romaine lettuce and a little bit of baby spinach leaves. And I still need to finish thinning the turnips… it’s always something.
