In the true spirit of urban farms I decided to use the “dead” space between our house and the neighbor’s driveway to grow something (at least there aren’t rows of crops in our front yard like in Boulder: http://www.communityrootsboulder.com/). Usually this space is filled with overgrown grass and weeds. It’s probably going to be heck to keep it from getting overrun with them again.
Since this spot is so close to the house I knew that I should plant something that is partially shade tolerant. I read that leafy greens do fine in shade so I chose Spinach and Radishes. There are two rows of Spinach and one row of Radishes. Radishes are one of the fastest growing crops so we should be seeing some harvested as soon as early April.
This week I need to plant some more carrots and the turnips. I’m thinking about growing a patch of carrots in one of the front beds. Ashley thinks I’m getting out of hand.
